For our first day we decided to go in one of the tourist attractions in Hong Kong since our travel package only covers our Disneyland and few tourist attractions. We decided to spent our whole afternoon there.
Since I've mentioned on my first post that our driver got delayed on fetching us in the airport, our arrival at the hotel is also delayed. We stayed at Silka Far East Hotel, our room is small even the beds are short! Plus the bathroom is also tiny! But overall I love how compact our room is and we all know that a big space in Hong Kong is quite expensive at all. Since we arrived a bit late in our hotel we decided to sleep and regain energy for our afternoon trip in Lantau Island.
After sleeping, we decided to grab a lunch in a nearby restaurant. I can't remember what we ordered and the only thing I can remember is the rice! There is plenty of rice in my bowl! If your not into rice you'll be overwhelmed by the serving. This two meal costs around 400-500 HKD. I consider it as expensive. hehe
After grabbing a meal, we decided to go in Lantau Island the side of Hong Kong wherein you'll find the Tian Tian Buddha and The Po Lin Monastery. We rode the MTR and here is a useful guideline for you:
- Ride an MTR and alight to Tung Chung Station (Yellow Line)
- Walk towards Exit B until you reach Ngong Ping Cable Car Station
We rode the MTR Tsuen Wan Station (Red Line) and alight to Lai King station from there ride a the Yellow line going to Tung Chung Station. For a first timer, you'll be overwhelmed by how big the station but don't be overwhelmed and afraid. Just what I've said follow the signs in the station you'll never get lost.
Upon arriving at the Ngong Ping Station, there is a long queue in order to get tickets in riding the cable car. I suggest before going to Hong Kong especially if you have plans of riding the cable car buy tickets at www.klook.com in order to avoid long queue of lines.
After purchasing tickets, expect a very long queue again in order to ride the cable car! Our legs are tired (huhu)
Finally! Our time has come!
I admit it's a bit scary! My mom is really scared every time the cable car makes noises (lagitgit sound) but nothing compares to the view of Hong Kong through riding the cable car. You'll get a 360 view of it! I consider the price of cable car as sulit!
Upon reaching the end of the station, you'll see lots of food stalls that we didn't get the chance to eat because it's expensive and we consider that there are cheaper stalls in the metro or the Tung Chung Station (you'll know we got a bit thrifty, haha!)
We walked towards the Po Lin Monastery until we reach the Tian Tian Buddha. Unfortunately, we decided not reach the the Buddha as know that our legs are tired of walking plus my mom is not pond of walking and it requires a lot energy, Yet, here is a zoomed photo of the buddha.
Afterwards, we decided to go back to the metro and ride again the MTR bound to Mong Kok Station to spend the rest of the night there and to look for some souvenir items there.
Mong Kok is a bit a like our Makati with it's tall buildings you'll be overwhelmed and wonder what if the whole Philippines is like this but still nothing beats to my beloved Philippines! We went to Mong Kok to find some cheap souvenir items but failed to find one because the ref magners are too expensive 100HKD per piece. Yet, I bought a pair of shoes from Adidas which I totally considered as cheap when you buy it here compare when you purchase it in Manila. Mong Kok Area is a haven of shoes but don't be fooled and be extra careful in buying because you might be caught up and going back home knowing you own a fake one. Here's my picture holding adidas paperbag that I got!
After that we decided to go back to Tsuen Wan area where our hotel is located and find where to eat, we experience a difficulty in finding a restaurant. We went into a local resto but because of the language barrier we did look for another resto, We also visited Mcdo but to our surprise their menu only contains burger! Ugh were too hungry to settle for burger :( We need rice! huhu
After failing to find a place to eat, we ended to the same place where we ate our lunch.
That's all for our day one in Hong Kong! I'm sorry for this long blog post, I am talkative and I enjoy writing too much! Til next time, much love!
